Mimi the Muttaburrasaurus

BiGfiSh was approached by advertising agency Whybin\TBWA with a very scratchy sketch of a dinosaur that they needed made into a 3 dimensional, interactive, fully realised playground feature in seven weeks! Accepting the challenge we produced a series of conceptual drawings which suggested scale and character and additional landscape elements, such as fabricated palm trees, which would place her in a prehistoric setting. Mimi, the Australian Muttaburrasaurus was born!

The playspace is located near a child care centre and has been designed for infants and primary school aged children. Scaling the climb rope, kids can climb up into Mimi’s belly, roar through a sound tube in her throat, slide out of her tail and look out through portholes in her haunches. Around Mimi kids can nest in giant dinosaur egg cubbies, try the rope climbs or rock on the Baby Dinosaur Rockers.

The playground was an initiative by Medibank Private to encourage healthy outdoor play. Based on the excitement the playground generates the initiative is working well.
