Casuarina Cubby

A local neighbourhood park was revitalised with the addition of a considered sculptural play piece, a Casuarina Cubby. The idea was inspired by a nearby grove of Casuarina trees, the form taken from seed pods dropped on the ground around their base. The cubby makes extensive use of recycled cypress as well as intricate steel patterns. It was originally designed to stand vertically but we gave it a little lean (into the wind) which also imbued it with an animated quality.
