Afghan Bazaar Sculpture

BiGfiSh was awarded the contract to build the centrepiece for the new Afghan Bazaar precinct in central Dandenong. The design by artist Aslam Akram is called ‘Lamp’ and honours the local community’s aspirations for a centrepiece in the Afghan Bazaar cultural precinct.

The solid lamp base references the traditional artistry of Afghan cultures including mosaic and geometric patterns. ‘Lamp’ is illuminated and features layered patterns to symbolise the transition of an established culture into Australia through freedom and change
